Tennessee-born Bobby "Blue" Bland recorded "Turn on Your Love Light" for the Houston-based Duke Records label in 1961.
The song is credited to arranger-bandleader Joe Scott and Deadric Malone, an alias used by Duke Records' owner, Don Robey.
It went to number-2 on Billboard's R&B chart and also reached the Top 30 on the Hot 100, making it one of Bland's biggest hits.
It's been covered many artists, including The Grateful Dead, Them (featuring Van Morrison), The Human Beinz, The Young Rascals, Jerry Lee Lewis and Edgar Winter's White Trash.
You can hear it on the soundtrack of the 2011 Matthew McConaughey movie The Lincoln Lawyer.
Bland was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and is still performing at age 82.
